Safeguarding

At Toad Hall Nursery, we are committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where children can develop, thrive, and grow into confident, responsible individuals.

Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do and forms a central part of our holistic approach to childcare. Our commitment ensures that:

  • Children are protected from abuse, neglect, and harm

  • Every child is supported to reach their full potential in a secure and caring setting

What we do to safeguard children at Toad Hall Nursery

At Toad Hall Nursery, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority.

Whenever we observe worrying changes in a child’s behaviour, physical condition, or appearance, we will create a specific and confidential safeguarding record, separate from a child’s usual developmental progress file.

This record will include:

  • The child’s name, address, and age

  • Timed and dated observations, described objectively (without personal comment or interpretation)

  • Where possible, the exact words spoken by the child

  • The date, name, and signature of the staff member making the record

All safeguarding records are stored in a secure file and are only accessible to the Nursery Owner, Manager, Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs), or, where appropriate, specific members of staff.

As part of our duty under the Berkshire West Children’s Safeguarding Partnership, we are required to maintain accurate safeguarding records. Please note that these records may or may not be available to parents, depending on the nature of the concern.

Our Safeguarding Policies and Procedures can be found in the policies and procedures section.

This clear process ensures that any concerns are recorded with accuracy, confidentiality, and in line with our safeguarding responsibilities.
